The park is officially named Sultan Abdul Aziz Recreation Park, in honor of the 13th Sultan of Perak, Sultan Abdul Aziz. ( Ipoh Echo, 2019; Ipoh Echo, 2024). The field, popularly known as Polo Ground, was originally used by the British colonial administration, who introduced modern polo to Malaya via India in the 1800s. It earned the name Polo Ground because of the polo matches played there by British officials and elites. (Source: Polo Residence, n.d.) Over time, its function shifted from hosting polo matches to becoming a public recreational space for walking, jogging, and community gatherings. (Ipoh Echo, 2019)
